music scene they call home. In an unprecedented move, Cagnet debuted in
Japan where they became international popstars selling millions of records.
Now back on American soil - after several sold-out international tours
- Cagnet has released their stateside debut Groove Radio on indie label
hyperdisc Records.
Cagnet is the brainchild of internationally renowned producer and Berklee School of Music graduate Daisuke Hinata. With a Grammy nomination and several Top Ten singles in Japan, Daisuke founded Hyper Image Studios in Santa Monica before beginning his collaboration with famed guitarist Bud Rizzo. Together they recruited the top talents characterizing the energy of Santa Monica's burgeoning groove scene and Cagnet was born. Soulful lead vocalist Anna McMurphy, backing vocalist Natalie Burks, English guitarist Rowan Robertson, drummer Jimi Paxson, and bassist Perry Frank round up the multi-cultural line up. Together they draw as much from Brazilian, African, Japanese, American, and British influences as they do from pop, funk, techno, jazz and R&B. Energized by Daisuke's global vision, Cagnet fuses the pulse of their influences to create their signature sound. The first single from Groove Radio, "Deeper and Deeper" instantly captures the listener with a laid-back groove and slinky vocal delivery reminiscent of old school R&B hits from the late 60's and early 70's. The song has already been featured on MTV's top-rated series "The Real World" and "Road Rules." Internatinally, "Deeper and Deeper," was featured on EMI Records' Now 5 CD series of top summer hits which, to date, has sold over 500,000 units worldwide. In Japan, "Deeper and Deeper" earned Cagnet platinum success after being featured on the hugely successful soundtrack for the Japanese television drama "Long Vacation." With the band's contribution, the soundtrack album Long Vacation became the all time higest selling soundtrack in history and was awarded the prestigious "Gold Disc" award in Japan for top pop soundtrack of the year. Other international accolades quickly followed including two SRO tours of South East Asia, easily selling out venues previously played by Alanis Morissette and Beck. "Rage in the Sky" from the Japanese release of Groove Radio hit #1 on Japan's international charts where it held the top spot for four weeks. Within a six month span, the phenomenon of Cagnet's success was captured in four South East Asian rockumentaries. In true pioneer spirit, Cagnet were chosen to participate in a groundbreaking Internet concert utilizing emerging on-line technology. Cagnet's members were divided between Santa Monica's Hyper Image recording studios and Tokyo's Beam concert hall with a hi-definition Internet Link transmitting their simultaneous performances via satellite across the Pacific. Wildly successful, this Internet innovation is now being embraced as a vital new music medium. Groove Radio was the first U.S. release for hyperdisc Records through their new distribution deal with EMI. Since their debut Cagnet has received numerous, unprecedented accolades foor their musical achievements, including Best Pop Soundtrack, ADLIB Magazine; GOLD DISC AWARD for Best Pop Album in Japan; GOLD ALBUMS for the soundtracks to Love Generation and Long Vacation; FM Select Radio Awards for Best Upcoming International Artist and Best New International Artist; HITS Radio Award for Best International Artist.
